All WTFL matches are played out bush, away from the risks and expenses of town, where everyone from the youngest to the oldest of community people can come, play, and watch their own family members and teams play football in a safe and family-friendly environment. AFL has a long history in the remote regions of Australia, and has a unique character and methods of play. This comic gives a pictorial history of the WTFL. This article from the Alice Springs Advocate also tells some of the story. The program is suspended at the moment but was operating well till the pandemic with the help of the AFLNT and the co-operation of local stores. The most recent project was the CAYLUS support of the Yuendumu Future Stars Competition in which the AFLNT combined with Tanami Football League Football Operations team to develop a summer football program for all youth, both male and female, in the region of Yuendumu. This included youth from Yuendumu, Mt Allan and Nyirripi. The program ran weekly from November until mid-February with a 2 week break for Christmas and New Year and other breaks due to cultural reasons.
